► Uno de los reinos de la Heptarquía anglosajona, situado entre los ríos Forh y Humber.

Reino anglosajón de Gran Bretaña formado por la unión de los reinos de Deira y Bernicia.

Situado entre el río Humber y el firth de Forth, se extendía desde el mar de Irlanda hasta el mar del Norte. Centros culturales como Lindisfarne y los monasterios de Wearmouth y Jarrow sintetizan sus logros religiosos, artísticos e intelectuales en los siglos VII–VIII. En Jarrow, con su gran biblioteca, residió san Beda. Tras la expansión del s. VII, Northumbria se convirtió en el más poderoso de los reinos anglosajones antes de ser destruido por los daneses que tomaron York en 866. El último gobernante escandinavo de York fue expulsado en 944, y Northumbria pasó a ser un condado del reino de Inglaterra.
